The Power of Less: Why Minimalism Wins in Branding
Hi creator,
Ever noticed how the most iconic brands barely say a word, yet you know exactly what they stand for? That’s the power of minimalism.
Clarity = Confidence
When a brand is simple, it shows confidence. There’s no need to shout when your identity is clear.
Brands like Rolex and Porsche are very minimalistic and they need no introduction when you see the logo you directly recognize it. The logo is clear and the identity speaks for itself.
That is the art of a clear minimalistic logo, it is better for being recognizable than a crazy logo who always need an introduction.
Better recall
A simple logo is easier to remember. Think about McDonald’s or Nike, it’s minimal and unforgettable. You recognize directly what the logo is and for what it stands for.
Also the Starbucks logo is also very minimal and an easy logo to remember when you go in the city and see the logo of Starbucks you think directly about coffee and that is the art of minimalism, you need to make a logo that shouts for itself so you can work more on leverage you service/product than inform your potential clients what you do and what the logo stands for.
versatility
Minimal designs work well across formats for app icons and clothes. When you think about your clothing, do you more prefer big logo’s on it or just some minimalistic detail on it?
Most of you would choose the minimalistic logo, but a logo that speak for itself, for example Nike, Armani,... when you see their logo, you immediately know what the brand stands for.
But also on apps, Notion for example, is a really minimalistic logo, but when you see the app logo you directly know that this is the place for my notes and plans for the future.
Look at your brand. If you remove 3 visual elements… would the message get stronger or weaker? That’s where the truth lives.
Do you believe minimalism makes brands stronger, or do we sometimes go too far. Go the comment section and let’s chat!
Have a creative week and remember I’m watching from a far.
